The Khelo India University Games 2024 (KIUG 2024) was recently started from February 19, 2024. The ongoing program is the fourth edition of the event. This programme is organized by the Government of India which promotes and encourages sports at the grassroots level. Khelo India is an essential part of the Khelo India programme launched in 2018 which is an initiative by the government of India. About Khelo India University Games 2024
Khelo India programme was an initiative which is inaugurated by the Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi on 31 January 2018 at the opening ceremony based on Guru-shishya tradition held at Indira Gandhi Arena. The programme was launched to promote sports culture in India through various means such as Development of Sports Infrastructure, Identification of talent from the grass-root level and developing a structured sporting competition. Around 4,500 athletes from more than 200 Institutes are participating in the competition for KIUG 2024 title. This is first time for the North-East Indian States (which includes Assam, Sikkim, Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, Nagaland, Mizoram and Tripura) to organize the KIUG.
